Trevira fibres and yarns create excitement at Heimtextil 2009

The "Funghy" design by Radka Dudasova from the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Slovakia was praised as multifunctional seating, providing on both sides an integrated cover that can be rolled out. The panel judged the ethnic design to be innovative for catering chains. It was produced with Trevira CS material from JAB Anstoetz.

A further recognition prize went to the "Stranger" design by Lenka Cerna from the University of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, where the fabric was in the foreground as an active design element. The student used a single colour furniture fabric from Christian Fischbacher, incorporating oriental patterns that contrasted sharply with the western style of the seating.

Special showcase "Urban Landscape": architecture in tune with nature
In its capacity as partner to Messe Frankfurt, Trevira was again involved this year in a Special Showcase. This was a structure entitled "Urban Landscape", made up of Trevira CS fabrics suspended from the roof along a boulevard running through Hall 3.1. The theme illustrates the trend towards viewing nature not as contrasting with urban architecture, rather as supplementing and enriching it.

The colours and designs were chosen to reflect this development and are taken from many home textiles collections currently available. The palette ranges from cool white and pale grey to anthracite, black and then to a variety of greens. To enable them to recognise the designs and experience the handle, onlookers rediscovered the fabrics as cushions set on benches along the boulevard. All the materials meet the requirements of the international contract market in terms of flame retardancy. 35 Trevira CS customers took part in this special exhibition, presenting a large spectrum of Trevira CS upholstery and decorative fabrics.

Trevira CS platform: Japanese manufacturers take joint stand
A further focus for Trevira CS at this year's Heimtextil fair was the joint stand of the Japanese texturer Unitika in Hall 3.1. Here five Japanese manufacturers presented their Trevira CS collections for the first time, the aim being to extend their activities in the contract sector with their Trevira CS textiles for drapes and decorative fabrics. The companies who participated in the Unitika stand were Textile Kishi Co. Ltd, Shimojo Co. Ltd., Suncorona Co. Ltd., Suzutora Industry Inc. and Suzukura Industry Inc.

Along with attractive Asiatic floral jacquards (Textile Kishi and Suncorona), there were solid colour fabrics on show that can be used as dividers in offices and hospitals (Suzukura). Incorporating fancy yarns, transparent and semi-transparent materials create a variety of looks and gloss finishes (Shimojo). Also new are double layer fabrics with different coloured yarns inlaid, producing a particularly decorative effect (Shimojo).

Produced with a special weaving technique, pleated fabrics enrich the range of the Trevira CS textiles from Japan with their added optical effects (Shimojo and Suzukura). Manufacturer Kurosawa Lace Co. Ltd had their own stand at the fair and have recently started to offer a range of flame retardant Trevira CS fabrics for curtains and string curtains. The white materials include to some extent fancy yarns and are of filigree construction and particularly light.
