Ajay Bhardwaj named Custom Fabrics director of planning

With hundreds of different colors and patterns and with constantly changing customer needs, the job of production planning for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics is highly complex, requiring the support and input from associates from throughout the company. Playing a central role in this process is Ajay Bhardwaj, who was recently named director of planning, succeeding Fred Rogers who is now serving as director of logistics.
"We start with a business plan that looks as far as three years into the future to make sure we will have the people, plants, equipment and materials required to meet customer needs," said Bhardwaj, whose family has been in the textile industry for more than 80 years. "One of my key responsibilities is to continuously monitor changes in supply and demand, which means working with sales, marketing, manufacturing and finance on a daily basis."
After graduating from college, Bhardwaj began his career with the family textiles business in Nairobi, Kenya until it was sold in 1989. His family emigrated to the U.S., and Bhardwaj gained additional experience with textiles companies throughout the Triad. Before joining Glen Raven earlier this year, he had owned and operated a contemporary retail furniture business in Charlotte for six years.
"I have met several associates who have been with Glen Raven for 20 to 30 years, and they are as enthusiastic today as they must have been when they first joined the company," he said. "Associates I work with are very positive, welcoming and willing to help. This is very refreshing and rare in this day and age when many people tend to be jaded and skeptical."
Bhardwaj's wife, Neelam, is an immigration attorney, and they have an eleven-year-old daughter, Jaya. The family is active in locally based charities that work to alleviate illiteracy and provide medical assistance to underprivileged children in India.
