Increased labour cost threatens textile industry

A statistical survey reveals that labor cost in the Chinese textile industry is three times higher than other Asian countries. In some industrial cities of China like Yiwu and Shenzhen, a labourer gets paid around US $1 per hour, where as in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Indonesia it is $0.29, $0.36, $0.22 and $0.36, respectively.

For many years, the Chinese industry had the advantage of low-cost labour, however, today, these developing countries are definitely posing threat to the low-value textile products. Thus, experts believe that it will be very difficult for the domestic textile enterprises to survive in the low-grade market.

According to an investigation of China Textile Import and Export Chamber, the average profit of country's textile export enterprises has been reduced to just 3 to 5 percent.
