Indian MSME minister offers key sector data in parliament

The share of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India’s gross domestic product during fiscals 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 was 29.5 per cent, 29.3 per cent and 29.7 per cent respectively, MSME minister Nitin Gadkari told parliament lower house citing data from the Central Statistics Office under the ministry of statistics and programme implementation.

Te share of MSME-related products in total exports during 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 (April-August) has been 49.69 per cent, 48.56 per cent, 48.10 per cent and 49.66 per cent respectively, according to the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics.

Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, the estimated numbers of people who got employment in micro enterprises during the fiscals 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 were 4.08 lakh, 3.87 lakh and 5.87 lakh respectively, Gadkari told parliament.
