Manmade fibres, yarns & fabrics register decline during March

The export figures figures released reecently by the FTSI (PC&C), DGCI&S, Kolkata indicate a decline in the export of Manmade Fibres, yarns & fabrics besides madeups.

In March this year, exports stood at Rs 824.49 crores (US $188.63 million) compared to Rs 933.98 crores (US $207.00) last year same period, showing a decline by Rs 109.49 crores.

The trend is somewhat a cause for concern as boom was expected following the ending of the MultiFibre Agreement begining January this year.

The figures for the entire year from April 2004 to March 2005 were also released and their highlights and export trends are as follows:

· Total exports of MMF textiles during April-March'04-05 has increased by 6.69% in US$ term as compared to the exports during April-March'03-04.

· Sixty Seven of the total export of MMF textiles is being shipped from Nhava Sheva sea, Mumbai Sea and Mumbai Air.

· Exports from Marmagoa Sea, Banglore Airport and Kandla Sea have grown by 1716.67%, 246.48% and 70.64% respectively.

· U.A.E., U.S.A. & Turkey are the India's leading markets with export performance of Rs. 1779.55 crores, Rs. 580.50 crores & Rs. 488.74 crores respectively, during April-March'04-05.

· Brazil, Afghanistan and Iran have shown an exceptional growth of 156.57%, 140.83% and 87.99% respectively during Apr-Mar 2004-2005.
