Statistics put out by the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals wool export in value terms values (total), but were not so striking even as volumes shot up.
While Australian fine wool exports rose sharply over the past season, volume wise, wool in this micron range rose correspondingly leading to the contention that aggregate demand for fine and superfine wool is steadfastly rising, despite wool prices remaining low since 2002/03 due to higher supplies available then.
The superfine and fine variety wool accounted for 40 per cent of the total value of Australian raw wool and top exports during 2004-2005.
Downward price trend was noted in the wool exports of the broader micron variety. There was different trend in case of wool more that 28 microns having higher demand due to its use in interiors.
