Manmade textiles & fabrics exports up 12%, says SRTEPC

Exports of synthetic and rayon textiles reached an all time high at Rs 9,681 crore for the period 2004-05 and its growth in dollar terms stood at about 12 percent.

These exports went to 183 countries against 177 during the previous year, informed Mr R.L. Toshniwal, Chairman, Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council at the annual general meeting of the council in Mumbai.

In terms of market share, 'quality conscious' European Economic Community (EEC) stood at 20 percent, while price-sensitive West Asian market share was 34 percent.

India's exports to US were second largest at eight percent valued at Rs 785 crore and showed more than five percent during 2004-5, he informed.

He also said that fabrics and made-ups, which carried added value, comprised 48 percent and 19 percent respectively of the exports standing at value terms at Rs 4,685 crore and Rs 1,813 crore, respectively over the previous years.

Toshniwal stated that Government has raised the council's export target at $2,300 million, up from $2,200 million last year.

Significantly, he pointed out that the first two months of this financial year recorded decline in exports by 12 percent in rupee terms against exports during April-May 2004.

He added that customs, the exports from major Indian port of man-made yarn, fabrics, made-ups and man-made staple fibre crossed Rs 1,116 crore in April-May 2005 against Rs 1,263 crore for same period last year.
