The year 2021 witnessed global foreign direct investment (FDI) flow of $1.65 trillion, up by 77 per cent from $929 billion in 2020, according to the investment trends monitor 2022 released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). South East Asia netted $184 billion, surpassing its pre-pandemic level by $3 billion, it said.The fourth quarter in 2020 saw the start of a sharpest global FDI uptrend since the 2008 recession, it noted.
“ASEAN resumed its role as an engine of growth for FDI in Asia and globally, with inflows up 35.2 per cent and accelerated growth across most of its members,” it said.

According to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the country received $4.35 billion in FDI in 2021, up by 22 per cent from the previous year, with China, the United States and Singapore being the largest contributors in that order.
