The Indian government had announced to lessen duty on textiles imports from Pakistan to raise confidence between the two countries.
Import duties on textile would decrease as a result of India's step to swap specific duties on these textile goods with common duties.
Earlier, specific duty was charge on the basis on particular measurement such as per piece. Islamabad was urging New Delhi to revoke this duty from a long time.
The specific duty on imports ranges from Rs 25 to Rs 125 per piece, while a simple duty would need a flat rate nearly 15 percent. Through this initiative, 300-odd textiles and clothing products from Pakistan would be entitled to get simple duty.
The Prime Minister's Trade and Economic Relations Committee would take initiative to revoke specific duties and swap them with simple duty, by next week, after Indo-Pak Commerce Secretary level talks from August 9 to 10.
Government also intends to swap specific duty with simple duty on Bangladeshi textiles and clothing and jute.
