Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in collaboration with European Union (EU) and German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), has planned to set up a Biotechnology Resource Centre at a cost of rupees two crore in Ahmedabad.
The Biotechnology centre is intended to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) to kick start enterprises involved in biotechnology such as pharmaceutical, textile, chemical and agriculture.
The Biotech Resource Centre will contribute to modernisation of Gujarat's economy along with a planned development of SME sector's growth, said Saroj Poddar, President of FICCI.
In-house information and intranet services on patents and state-of-the-art technology to continuously network with relevant European organizations, are some of the services envisaged by the Resource Centre.
Biotechnology applications are foreseen in industries such as human and animal health care, agriculture and food processing, environment protection and other embedded industrial applications, he added.
The centre has been established in Gujarat due to its contribution to the economic development of the country, said Poddar.
It has empowered Indian businesses, in the changing times, to shore up their competitiveness and enhance their global reach.
FICCI maintains the lead as the proactive business solution provider through research, interactions at the highest political level and global networking.
