Retail sector grows at very fast pace, FDDI Center for Retail

FDDI's Center for Retail organized a seminar on “Increasing Consumerism - Challenges for Retailers” on 29th November 2007 at FDDI, which was inaugurated by Shri Ajay Maken, Hon'ble Minister of State (Urban Development).

In his welcome address Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI said that “FDDI conducts wide range of long term and short term programmes in the area of Retail Management, Fashion, Footwear Design, Technology, Management, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Creative Designing & CAD/CAM, Leather Goods & Accessories Design etc. The long-term programmes are of two to three years duration while short-term programme is of six-month duration.”

He further said that, “The performance of the institute has been outstanding in all areas of its operations such as training, testing, designing, consultancy and distance learning program etc. & with dedicated team existing in the institute, the institute has attained new heights. The intake of students has increased from 150 to 800 and has presently become the fastest growing institute in the country.”

Mr. Lakhara also said, “The objective of this seminar is to utilize the platform to share the views of the eminent personalities of this trade for the growth of the retail sector.”

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Ajay Maken said that he was delighted to be present during the seminar “Increasing Consumerism - Challenges for Retailers” at the Centre for Retail of FDDI.

He said that the retail sector is growing at a very fast pace. This calls for the requirement of the creation of the big malls instead of small shops to facilitate the consumers in better way and thus it becomes necessary to know the purchase and consumption habits of the Indian consumer by players entering this arena.
