Sayoko Yamaguchi, internationally-renowned actress and first super model from Japan, died of acute pneumonia on August 14. She was born at Prefecture of Kanagawa in September 1950.

Yamaguchi hailed from Yokohama and was alumni of Sugino Gakuen's Dressmaker Gakuin design school in Tokyo. She appeared at Paris Fashion Week for the first time in 1972 at the age of 22.

Yamaguchi has walked the ramp for well-known Japanese designers like Kenzo Takada and Kansai Yamamoto. Her oriental charm appealed to many fashionistas even in New York. Her shiny straight black hair with fringe cut above her eyes made a mark in the world of fashion.

Sayoko was considered as one of the top Japanese models and was also chosen among top six international fashion models. She also appeared in movies, plays and advertisements.
