AWI's Stewart calls European labels 'Global Fashion Trendsetters'

Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) Textile Technology General Manager Graham Stewart informed that the small but powerful group of product developers who consulted to Europe's major fashion houses were "hungry for new fabrics, new ideas".

World class science and innovative style are essential partners when it comes to getting more Australian Merino wool into the ranges of the influential European fashion houses.

He informed that these fashion houses – the Armanis, the Pradas and so on – don't sell a lot on their own but you cannot overstate their influence on global fashion trends – Europe's icon labels are trendsetters for the world apparel markets.

Mr Stewart also stated that AWI's global focus on building demand centred on three key regions – Europe as the world's fashion and style trendsetters, China and Asia as the world's apparel manufacturing powerhouse and new emerging consumer market, and North America, as the home to the world's major retail brands, including the major sport and streetwear brands.

He added that they should not forget the influence of the European fashion houses. Once Armani or Prada puts out a new range, it's quickly interpreted by the new quick turn over retailers such as Zara and H&M, and success there results in mass retailers such as Marks & Spencer in England producing similar lines that can sell hundreds of thousands of garments.
There is a trickle-down effect and with successful trends it becomes a flood.
