Moshaneng Members of the Parliamentary Labour Relations Committee have advised Moshana Quarry Mine management to always make sure their employees wear protective clothing once they are within the mine.

The committee advised management during a visit to the quarry on labour relations matters on Friday 12.

They said it is risky to allow workers without protective clothing to enter company premises, adding that wearing items like helmets, musks, overalls, and gloves is a must in such factories.

Protective clothing need to be supplied to employees and once supplied it is an offence for an employee to refuse to put them on.

Really it cost you less to buy uniform but it can cost you more to pay for injuries that might arise because employees did not put on protective clothing.

Parliamentary Labour Relations Committee chairperson Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri advised employees to make sure that labour relation laws are adhered to and also establish whether such laws are still relevant.

The employees complained about what they referred to as unfair treatment and lack of transparency by the management.

They told the parliamentary committee that though they are working in a dusty area, they are rarely supplied with some of the protective clothing and this only occurs when VIPs were touring the company.

They said this year; they were only supplied with overalls, after a strike but no safety boots or helmets.
