Erode garment exporters optimistic on grabbing Intl orders

Textile and garment manufacturers and exporters in Erode have their fingers crossed on having a bright future prospect, especially since a large number of international buyers are turning to India following the hike in prices of textile and apparel in China.
China has the largest share in the export market and it virtually monopolized the international scenario but after a surge in the cost of production, buyers from various countries, including those from US and EU have started placing fresh orders with exporters in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India.
In an exclusive interview with Fibre2fashion, Mr S Sivanandhan, Secretary of Textile Garment Exporters Association of Erode, stated, “Previously prices in China were 25 percent less compared to India but in the present times, prices have nearly equaled. Now textile and garment manufacturers and exporters are hoping that buyers will again turn towards India. There were a few small and medium scale industries who have decided to shut down their plants due to one or the other problems being faced since last year. But our association has asked members to wait for another 3 to 4 months. Although we have not received any order from international buyers as yet, we are expecting it in the near future.”
It has been reported that production and export of garments from China have dropped remarkably due to a host of reasons including price hike of raw materials and increase in the cost of production.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu exported apparels worth Rs20,000 crore of which Erode alone accounted for Rs500 crore. Experts are confident that if the Government continues to lend its support, it will not be long before India is able to grab a larger pie of the marketshare of China and become a leading player in the global export market.
