The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will collaborate on a research project entitled 'Health, safety and productivity in the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh'.

For the research project collaboration, BGMEA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Center for Industrial Production (CIP) of Aalborg University and the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), BGMEA said on its website.

BGMEA president Md. Atiqul Islam, professor Peter Hasle of CIP, Aalborg University and professor AMM Saifullah, vice chancellor, AUST inked the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The MoU aims to establish collaboration between BGMEA, CIP and AUST concerning improvement of productivity and occupational health and safety (OHS) in the RMG industry of Bangladesh.

The project is funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the brand which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark uses when it provides humanitarian aid and development assistance to other countries, with focus on developing countries.

Denmark's Ambassador to Bangladesh Hanne Fugl Eskjær and BGMEA vice president (Finance) Reaz Bin Mahmood were also present on the occasion. (RKS)
