Germany's Josef Seibel opts for green electricity at Hauenstein site

As part of the realignment of the international footwear manufacturing company Josef Seibel, its production site in Hauenstein, Germany is switching to 100 per cent green electricity. The traditional company is aligning itself more sustainably and integrating low-pollutant and low-emission trading into a future-oriented corporate policy.

The company’s sustainability drive also includes environmentally friendly production processes and the use of sustainable materials such as chrome-free and dry-tanned leather and the use of vegetable dyes. The production site in Hauenstein also reduces the CO₂ footprint during transport, Josef Seibel said in a press release.

Stadtwerke Karlsruhe was chosen as a partner for the supply of environmentally friendly electricity. With 880.333 kWh of certified green electricity according to ‘GoO Green Electricity’, the company will save 310 tons of CO₂ from June 2021 to the end of 2022, thus making an important contribution to climate protection. The calculated amount of energy is forecast from the consumption data for 2020.

The Josef Seibel Group has been a member of Cads-Shoes e.V., a cooperation for secured standards in the production and marketing of sustainable, pollutant-free, environmentally friendly and socially responsible shoes, shoe materials and leather goods, since 2018.
