Minister suggests adoption of policies to stop illegal clothes imports

Lebanon's Industry Minister Vreij Sabounjian stressed on the need to support the textiles sector in the country, while meeting a delegation of textiles and garment industries led by Mr. Sleiman Khattar.

The Minister said there is a need to adopt policies to stop illegal import of clothes by evading taxes.

Mr. Sabounjian said that the directorate general of customs should be asked to collaborate in bringing the issue of illegal imports to close, as it is a big obstacle in the growth of textiles and garment sector in the country.

The delegation of owners of textiles and garment industries which called on the Minister urged him to implement same rate of tariffs on used as well as new clothes so as to prevent tax evasion activities during imports.
