Readymade garment (RMG) exports from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have registered a sharp rise during the first three quarters of the current fiscal year that started on July 1, 2011.
Bangladesh's exports to the UAE for the nine-month period surged to record US$ 68 million, showing a 62 percent rise over exports worth US$ 42 million achieved during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Experts predict the trend would continue and Bangladeshi apparel exports to the UAE would cross the US$ 2 billion mark over the next three years.
According to them, good quality products and cost-effectiveness have greatly pushed demand for Bangladeshi RMG in the UAE.
While production cost remains high in China, Bangladesh has an ability to produce any RMG product cost-effectively. This has enhanced the prospects of Bangladeshi RMG industry.
Recently, when a team of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) visited the UAE to explore new trade opportunities there, it met with a positive response from UAE entrepreneurs who expressed their interest to import more Bangladeshi RMG products.
Bangladeshi apparel exporters can bank on the UAE market, as the UAE has a strong and emerging economy, aver experts.
Blazers, bib and brace overalls, jackets, knitted and crocheted trousers, breeches and shorts, nightdresses and pyjamas, underpants and briefs, polo shirts, T-shirts, socks, sweaters, and clothing accessories are among the items that top the list of Bangladeshi apparel exports to the UAE.
