Jun '12
Shri. Anand Sharma, Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles, met the European Union (EU) Trade Commissioner Mr. Karel De Gucht at Brussels and reviewed the status of India-EU Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement (BITA) negotiations and both sides agreed on a roadmap to conclude the negotiations by October-November this year.

Dr. A. Sakthivel, President of Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) said he has sent thanks letter to the Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles for the Road map drawn for conclusion of India-EU Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement (BITA) negotiations by October-November this year.

Dr. Sakthivel said the much expected Trade Agreement with EU will place garment exports at par with Bangladesh garment exports, as India will also enjoy the custom free duty in EU like Bangladesh.

Dr. Sakthivel mentioned after conclusion of agreement the competitiveness of knitwear garments will get enhanced as there will be no customs duty in European Union and more possibilities of increasing garment exports in the EU market.
