Teijin to provide eco-friendly uniforms for National Games

The Teijin Group, one of the world's leading high-performance fiber suppliers, announced that it will provide uniforms made from its recycled polyester ECO CIRCLE FIBERS for staff at the athletes’ village of the 12th National Games of the People's Republic of China, the largest national sporting event in the country. The Games will be held from August 31 to September 12 in the city of Shenyang.

Teijin is pleased to contribute to the themes of the Games -- Green, Eco and Low Carbon -- by providing suits and ties made from ECO CIRCLE FIBERS, which are manufactured using Teijin's closed-loop recycling system, ECO CIRCLE. The system employs the group's advanced proprietary chemical recycling technology developed in 2000 as the first of its kind in the world.

Teijin is also pursuing cleantech opportunities in China in other ways. In the Hunnan New District of Shenyang, the group’s Multi-Stage Activated Biological Process (MSABP) system, a core offering of its wastewater treatment business, has been adopted for multiple new sewage treatment plants.

MSABP significantly suppresses the generation of excess sludge compared with the common oxidation ditch process, thereby eliminating the need for sludge disposal, resulting in a low-energy, low-maintenance, cost-effective solution. In order to create a base to meet the expanding need for water solutions in China, Teijin established a new company in May 2013 -- Teijin (Shenyang) Environmental Technologies Co., Ltd.

The Teijin Group is also making major contributions to China’s polyester recycling business. The group has launched China's first program for collecting and recycling used garments in collaboration with Li Ning Company Limited, the nation's leading sports apparel company. Teijin also established Zhejiang Jiaren New Materials Co., Ltd. with Jinggong Holding Group in 2012 to create a closed-loop recycling system in China, with operations scheduled to begin in May 2014.

China is a high-priority market in the Teijin Group’s medium- to long-term growth plan. The Group aims to expand business in China through strategic alliances with local partners, expansion of production and R&D bases, and development of environment-related businesses.
