According to a statement issued by BUTEKOM, representatives and executives from the country’s leading children’s garment companies participated in the workshop which was conducted in coordination with the Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTIB).
Uludag university lecturer and advisor to BUTEKOM, Mr. Yusuf Ulcay said Bursa produces 80 percent of the total kidswear and children’s apparel in the country.
The kidswear sector is an important sector for Turkey and it has a potential to grow and earn more from exports, he added.
Mr. Halil Atalay, chairman of BEKSIAD, said the children’s apparel industry has a significant potential and this potential should be used in a more economically viable way.
BEKSIAD along with the executives of the participating firms would create a short and medium term work plan for the children’s apparel sector, and the final report of the plan is expected to be shared publically by the end of September, 2013.
