Alongside his business activities, Eberhard Bezner also undertook political responsibilities in the municipal sector for many years. Indeed, he was the longest serving councillor (CDU party) in the Bietigheim-Bissingen town council from 1968 till 2005, at the same time holding the honorary of-fice of Deputy Lord Mayor. In recognition of his numerous services to the community as a citizen and elected representative, he received a prestigious civil award, the “Ehrennadel”, from the district of Baden-Württemberg, which was presented to him by former Minister President Erwin Teufel. He also holds the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
His numerous business trips and private visits to continents all over the world, gave Eberhard Bezner an insight into the difficult and life-threatening situations of the poorer sections of the popu-lation in the Third World at an early stage. As a result, he and the local employees at the OLYMP production sites have always been very diligent in ensuring the provision of ergonomic and hygi-enic working conditions, together with a balanced diet of food typical of the country, medical ser-vices and the right to personal religious freedom. The international OLYMP partner companies also have the internationally recognised and well-respected social accountability certificate SA 8000:2001. In addition, OLYMP has also pledged itself to adhere to far reaching social standards in the manufacture of its products through its membership of the BSCI, the Business Social Compli-ance Initiative.
His years of social involvement in Asia and South America have extended beyond the financial support of orphanages in Myanmar (Burma), and an AIDS clinic for mothers and young children in the border area between Thailand and Myanmar, to the education of young people from socially deprived families in Sao Paulo in Brazil. In 2008 Eberhard Bezner and his family crowned their involvement in these areas with the foundation of the OLYMP-Bezner-Stiftung with nominal capi-tal of one million euros from private assets. This foundation has the charitable mission of continu-ing the existing aid projects in Myanmar, Thailand and Brazil, as well as verifying that new dona-tion requests from home and abroad are in line with the terms of the foundation.
Eberhard Bezner is also a well-known music lover, and having set up the annual OLYMP Jazz Fes-tival, he is a cultural sponsor of the Bietigheim-Bissingen community. As an enthusiastic sports fan, he has been supporting local sports clubs for many years, including the men's and women's second league team at the SG BBM Bietigheim handball club.
