Glenmuir proud to receive 25-Year award from The PGA
Leading golf apparel brand Glenmuir has joined an exclusive collection of major golf companies that can celebrate a quarter of a century of working with the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland.
This remarkable feat was commemorated at this year's Open Championship when Glenmuir managing director, Colin Mee, was presented with a special 25-year PGA Plaque by PGA Captain, Jim Farmer, in front of famous faces and industry-leaders from the world of golf.
Lanark, Scotland-based Glenmuir's close affiliation with the PGA - headlined by its sponsorship of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship - began in 1985 when PGA chief executive, Sandy Jones, asked the company to sponsor an assistant pro event in his then role as Scottish Regional Secretary.
Over the years, the ever-strengthening relationship has seen Glenmuir become the longest-running sponsor of the prestigious PGA Professional Championship and supporter of various other events and initiatives, including the PGA Cup, while Glenmuir clothing is supplied to staff in the seven PGA regions and to the PGA Professionals who coach and demonstrate golf at The Open.
Accepting the plaque, Colin Mee said: "Glenmuir is proud to be associated with the PGA of GB and Ireland, the PGA's of Europe and the many national European PGA's with whom we have forged strong links over recent years.
"Our sponsorship and support of the PGA, because it plays such a huge role in the ongoing development of the game of golf at home and overseas, forms a very important part of our marketing and communications strategy.
“This fantastic gesture underlines the fact that Glenmuir has enjoyed a remarkable relationship with the PGA, making many friends and business associates throughout the golfing world. Long may it continue.”
The plaque was presented during the PGA drinks reception at the Open Championship and followed the presentation of lifelong achievement awards to John Jacobs and Peter Thomson.
PGA Chief Executive, Sandy Jones, said: "It doesn't seem like yesterday that I first approached Glenmuir about sponsoring a small Scottish assistants' event, but I have to admit little did I imagine that it would be the start of a relationship that would last 25 years.
"However, I'm not surprised because both the PGA and Glenmuir share many values in terms of their commitment to growing and promoting the game and the strength of that relationship is reflected in their on-going support of the PGA professional.
"It's for that reason that we decided to recognise their long-standing support of the PGA at both regional and national level and we're delighted that Colin Mee was able to receive this special plaque from PGA captain Jim Farmer.”
Glenmuir is a preferred supplier to The European Ryder Cup Team, will be lead vendor in the Ryder Cup Merchandise Pavilion at this year's Ryder Cup in Wales, and is exclusive licensee of Open Championship official merchandise.
