Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Industries and Commerce, SS Slathia has stated that the J&K government has resolved to encourage the leather industry in the State.
The Minister said that there is a domestic availability of around three million sheep hides for use as raw inputs, which are otherwise sold to other States for processing and value addition.
He revealed that the common Effluent Treatment Plant at Lassipora-based Industrial Growth Centre is about to be completed and is expected to start functioning by end of July 2011, and added that this shall greatly aid development and promotion of the State's leather industry.
In order to attract huge investments from industry tycoons, both from within in the country and abroad, the Minister urged for developing congenial atmosphere and raising proper industrial infrastructure in the State.
