Cordura fabrics are designed to help soldiers face threats including man-made hazards, operational hazards and natural hazards. The company's solution dyed nylon (SDN) technology, apt for military gear, is designed to offer durability, lot-to-lot colour consistency, resistance to sunlight UV fade and strength degradation as well as a built-in reflectance capability in the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum.
Cordura's NYCO fabrics collection includes different weight and nylon/cotton blend options as well as a broader selection of woven constructions and solutions with comfort stretch functionality. They are engineered to help provide durable and comfortable solutions for extreme environments. The flame retardant (FR)-coated Cordura nylon 6,6 fabrics are designed to be the soldier's first line of defence in protective/ballistic vests. They offer protection against heat, flame and thermal propagation in protective apparel and footwear.
Speaking about the latest fabric innovations, Cindy McNaull, brand and marketing director of Cordura, told Fibre2Fashion, “Cordura brand fabrics are made mission-ready. We have a range of durable fabrics designed specifically to be used in military gear and apparel to help provide physical protection that is the soldier's first line of defence.”
“Our latest innovations are centred on providing solutions that help make the hard days that soldiers face a little easier, whether it is lighter fabrics to help reduce the overall weight of equipment or comfortable yet rugged textiles for extreme environments such as the jungle or desert,” she added.
The new innovations are a step ahead of the company's previously introduced technologies. McNaull explained, “With the advent of increased use of technology, the burden on the individual soldier has significantly risen such that the need for weight reduction solutions has become increasingly important.”
“This drive towards 'lighter stronger' has resulted in our R&D team creating next generation Cordura NYCO fabric options for combat uniforms that the US Army is currently running trials on. In other areas, we are excited about enhancements to our portfolio of fibre technologies that help with soldier concealment through their infrared reflectance capabilities,” she continued.
Durable and comfortable fabric solutions including Cordura Baselayer for combat shirts and fleeces, as well as Cordura Combat Wool designed for enhanced thermoregulation, were also showcased at the event. (KD)
