Centre has approved setting up of a footwear and footwear component parks at Irungattukottai, around 35 km from Chennai in Tamil Nadu (TN), announced Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports, M. Rafeeque Ahmed, and Executive Director, K. Elangovan, at the inauguration of India International Leather Fair (IILF-2006).
While the footwear park would receive financial assistance of of Rs20 crore, the component park would get more than Rs10 crore, they informed.
As an implementing agency, the Council would allot plots for the construction of common facilities in the park, which include testing laboratories, design centre and a warehouse.
Council is in talks with international laboratories to set up testing facilities.
This would help many buyers who want leather tested at international facility.
