GFSI inks deal with Sesame Workshop for apparel line

There will be some new faces on campus soon. Champion Custom Products and its parent company GEAR For Sports have signed an exclusive agreement with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational producer behind Sesame Street, to create a range of collegiate apparel product using the beloved Sesame Street characters. The line will be available beginning January 2006.

The products and graphics, featuring the Sesame Street characters, will be targeted to all ages including infant/toddler, youth, and adult. In addition to the target base of preschoolers, these characters enjoy popularity with teens and adults.

“Whether you're a preschooler starting to learn the A, B, Cs, or a college student earning your degree, you can enjoy a lifetime of learning with the characters of Sesame Street,” said Maura Regan, Sesame Workshop's Vice President and General Manager of Global Licensing. “Working closely with Champion/Gear For Sports, leaders in the collegiate sportswear industry, we've developed a line of apparel that will appeal to Sesame Street fans who are young or simply young at heart.”

“The synergy between the collegiate attitudes and lifestyle of today's students and alumni combined with the nostalgic appeal of the characters is a perfect fit,” said Carl Allard, GEAR/Champion's Vice President of Campus Brands. “The images will be fun and provide a distinctive 'feel good' message.” The program was introduced to both the Gear For Sports and Champion sales forceat their recently completed National Sales Meeting. “The response was overwhelming enthusiasm,” stated Allard.
