British luxury brand Burberry has been included in the 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for the first time the company said in a press release.

The inclusion recognises that Burberry is one of the top performing companies in the 'Consumer Durables & Apparel' sector for Corporate Sustainability in the World.

Now in its 16th year, the industry-specific, best-in-class approach to selection means the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices serve as trusted benchmarks for the investment community, recognising sustainable business practices as indicative of long-term shareholder value.

Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Bailey, said: “It is a great honour to be included in the 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability Index. I believe our inclusion reflects the real focus, importance and integrated approach that we place as a culture on managing our business in a responsible and sustainable manner - this recognition means a great deal to all of us at Burberry.”

The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index recognises and tracks the performance of the top 10 per cent of the 2500 largest companies in the S&P Global Broad Market IndexSM. These companies lead the field in sustainability operating across 59 industries and 47 countries. The Index family comprises global, regional, and country listings tracking the stock performance of the world's leading companies against economic, environmental and social criteria. (SH)
