SLDF aims to promote Sri Lankan creative industries

The award will identify four Sri Lankan designers with creative flair, exceptional design skills and ethical practices during the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2010: two from the ready-to-wear category and two from the lingerie category. Designers will be able to apply online through the SLDF website and the applications will be assessed by an expert panel in UK.
The selected designers will work with a designated mentor in the UK who will help them to develop their range, following which they will produce a collection that will be assessed by the London Fashion Week Estethica panel in 2011. The designers may also have an opportunity to showcase their collection at '”Designers of the World” at Estethica in September 2011, which will help to gain international recognition, expand existing businesses & promote Sri Lanka as an Ethical Manufacturing Destination.
Nathan Sivagananathan, the Chief Executive Officer of MAS Design commented on the award, saying, “We are making a statement by presenting this award at this year's Design Festival. MAS Holdings is a company heavily invested on sustainable manufacturing, and we want to encourage the global industry's gradual progression to ethical fashion. We want Sri Lankan designers to be leaders to create a positive change in the apparel industry”.
Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean, Chairman of MAS Holdings emphasising on the importance of undertaking the sponsorship for this event stated “The Design Festival provides us the perfect opportunity to show our commitment to the future of the apparel industry. Most importantly, we know the significance of positioning Sri Lanka as the ethical manufacturing hub of this region. This event will showcase our talent as well as our innovative technologies to the world”.
SLDF 2010 will take place from 11-17 November 2010 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, Mount Lavinia (Sri Lanka) and is set to be a dynamic and unique event, celebrating design, creativity and sustainability.
