Japan's MMF output continues to decline

For the fourth consecutive month, Japan's man-made fibre production decreased by 2.4 per cent year-on-year to 80,615 tons in March 2016, the Japan Chemical Fibers Association data showed.

The overall stock of MMF with the producers at the end of March stood at 88,714 tons, registering a decline of 4 per cent from the stock at February-end.

Among MMF, synthetic fibre production dropped 1.8 per cent to 66,347 tons in the month of March.

Likewise, production of nylon filament declined 1.9 per cent in March to 7,578 tons, down for the 15th consecutive month.

Similarly, production of polyester filament fell 10 per cent to 9,962 tons, registering a drop for the fifth consecutive month. Polyester staple fibre output was down 9.7 per cent to 10,757 tons, down for the 17th consecutive month.

However, acrylic staple fibre production increased by 1.8 per cent to 11,798 tons during the month, the data showed.

Output of polypropylene filament and polypropylene staple fibre increased by 5.6 per cent and 7.9 per cent, respectively, to 6,518 tons and 5,147 tons during the period under review. (RKS)
