Accord terminates the bonding with 37 more RMG factories

Washim Mia, Staff Correspondent (RMG Times)  Accord on Building and Fire Safety in Bangladesh, a consortium of European brands and buyers, has cut business relations with 37 more Bangladeshi readymade garment factories due to refusal and failure of the factory authorities at implementing workplace safety measures in the units suggested by the buyers’ platform.

With the latest numbers, the Accord has so far cut business relations with 133 RMG factories on the ground of safety issues that produce products for the European brands and buyers.

The factories are: Dowas-land Apparels Ltd, Dowas-Land Knit Wear (Pvt.) Ltd, Dowas-Land Textiles Mills Ltd, Dowas-Land Seamless Garments, Dowas-Land Dyeing & Finishing Ind’s Ltd, Dowas-Land Printing & Embroidery, Proud Textile, Sourov Hosiery, Asif Apparels Ltd, Asif Fashion Industries Ltd, Mahid Apparel Ltd, Jonayid Sweater Link, Jaj Bhuiyan Textile Mills Ltd, Jaj Spinning Mills Ltd, MM Knitting & Embroidery Ltd, Mahid Expo Int. Tex Ltd, Zakia Cottontex Ltd, JM Classic Fashion Ltd, JB Yarn Dyeing, Fay-Max Sweater Composite Ltd, Jonayid Dyeing & Printings Ltd, Noorun Nahar Knitwear Ltd, RBSR Fashions Ltd, MS Knit Ltd, Sikder Apparel Hosiery Ltd, Sikder Classic Dyeing & Knitting (PVT) Ltd, Sikder Apparel Ltd, Sikder Creation Ltd, Sikder Fashion Wear Ltd, Sikder Computerized Label Ltd, Sikder Accessories Ltd, Woolen Wear Ltd, Sister Apparels Ltd, Hossain Fashion Ltd, Unison Design Limited, Unison Embroidery & Printing Ltd and Le Mond Apparel & Textile.

These factories are being operated under 12 business groups.

After a deadly building collapse in a garments factory, located at Savar, in 2013 the Accord was formed by EU to improve factory safety in Bangladesh.

The platform has so far conducted fire, electrical and structural safety inspection in more than 1,600 RMG factories which are the suppliers of EU buyers and retailers.

The overall remediation progress rate of safety issues identified in initial inspections verified as fixed has reached 83 percent, a recent report of the Accord said.

It also said that remediation is close to completion at 699 factories that has completed more than 90 percent of the remediation while 127 factories have completed all remediation from initial inspections.
