Toray revolutionizes WPB sector with 3D technology

“Three dimensional” is the key word currently in use to describe the latest innovative technologies - just think about 3D movies. But very soon, the term '3D' will be hard to avoid in the sport clothing sector. Innovation leader Toray has succeeded in incorporating all the advantages of three dimensionality into high performance WPB (WPB stands for waterproof/breathable)materials.
Toray is very proud to announce that the innovative 3D technology got the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD 2011.
This is the beginning of a new era in comfort for Windproof, Waterproof, and Breathable jackets – outdoor athletes were never this dry on the outside and the inside! At temperatures above 10°C, waterproof membrane jackets reach the limit of their performance.

At that point, dry on the outside means: wet on the inside. Many hikers preferred to carry an umbrella. The traditional membranes or coatings do not let trapped moisture escape to the outside – the difference in temperature decreases. Perspiration condenses on the inside, the membrane sticks to the skin – the worst-case scenario for every active person!

Those days are finally over as Toray is once again revolutionizing the WPB sector! Using this 3D technology, Toray has introduced a new, three dimensional waterproof material with outstanding breathability. The secret of success is the three dimensional surface of the membrane or coating– this means the inner lining of material feels absolutely dry and soft in any situation. A masterpiece of engineering! Jackets with the 3D technology can be comfortably worn directly over the skin because, besides the new feeling of comfort, the fabric is highly breathable. This effect is achieved through the three dimensional structure, which increases the evaporation surface for perspiration many times over. The moisture is immediately transported to the outside without any condensation forming on the inner lining of the material.

The functional features of this new 3D technology are supported by the Entrant coating and the Dermizax membrane, also manufactured by Toray. Robust and still lightweight, stretchable, and with outstanding skin comfort – these are the special features of this extraordinary new concept that once again raises the standard for top functionality.

Furthermore, Toray brings a brandnew high breathable coating which performs in a wide range of active sports and can be combined with the 3D technology. The new 3D technology - engineered by Toray.

The premiere of the new 3D technology on the market is planned in conjunction with OutDoor 2011, which will held from July 14-17, 2011 at Friedrichshafen, Germany. It is a complete redesign of the Dermizax 3D membrane, currently being offered to the clothing manufacturers Bergans and Kjus. In the near future, it will be possible to combine this innovative 3D technology with different laminates and coatings from Toray and the high functionality of these fabrics will be brought to a whole new level for top comfort.
