Hirisho Kawano, Senior Managing Director, Juki Corporation, has urged the Indian apparel industry to make efforts for attaining status in international markets by enhancing productivity.

He said if the apparel sector betters efficiency and upgrades its standards, country can become a major global apparel producer.

He added that it was necessary to install modern sewing machines and impart training to labourers for improving the sector's quality and efficiency.

Presently India is the third biggest market for company with its share in Juki global sales being 3.7 percent, which will grow by 2008, when it becomes the second biggest market in Asia for the company.

Apparel exports to company are increasing from the country. Juki sold more than 45,000 sewing machines to India last year and it aims to raise this number to 70,000 by 2008.

Company is organizing a three day exhibition to achieve further growth in the country. Expo will display 39 industrial sewing machine models, of which 15 models are new.
