Laura Ashley & People Tree collaborate on new collection

Many of the best moments in fashion are a fusion of past and present - the modern flare, the Noughties tea dress, the winter maxi - and this Spring/Summer, a collaboration between Laura Ashley and ethical fashion label People Tree proves exactly why this is the case.

Laura Ashley is a company with a proud British heritage and a long history of producing fashion and homewares in irresistibly pretty prints; this year, People Tree have selected three original prints from Laura Ashley's extensive and exciting archive, re-worked them in a contemporary palette of grey, navy and pink and printed them on 100% organic cotton to create eight pieces for the coming season that are as of-the-minute as the notion of ethical fashion itself.

Two women's dresses, both priced at £85, form the centrepieces of the collection, one a
vintage-style sundress with button-front and slouchy side pockets; the other a shift shape with cap sleeves, side pockets and round neck. Upping the modern-meets-vintage vibe is an oh-so-cool jumpsuit, featuring button-front, side pockets and cuffed legs - perfect for summer barbecues and festivals when teamed with glads, huge shades and a carelessly slouchy tote.

Other pieces in the breezily cool, summery collection include a pair of flared, turn-up shorts and A-line skirt, both fabulous when paired with a tucked-in tee, plus a puff-sleeve tunic, and a fitted bodice with button-front, waist gather and flaring detail over the hips that references shapes from the Fifties - the decade in which the Laura Ashley brand was born.

At £95, the cropped jacket is the highest priced item in the range and will look effortlessly cool over jeans or as a stylish and contemporary alternative to cardigans and cover-ups in the months leading up to no-jacket-required temperatures.

As far as collaborative efforts go this is one of the most intriguing, melding gorgeous prints that beautifully capture another, less complicated time with slick styling and social concerns that are so very relevant to the world we live in now.

Available from March, the collection is remarkable for looking as good as the good it is doing - and who can ask for more than that from a fashion fix?
