400 delegates to gather at Indian Textile Association's eco conference

Bringing together 400 esteemed delegates, the Textile Association (India), Mumbai unit, is preparing for its international conference 'Sustainability and Circularity—The New Challenges for The Textile Value Chain'. The event is scheduled to take place at Hotel The Lalit, Mumbai, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, and aims to foster discussions on the adoption of sustainable and circular methodologies in the textile industry.

The chief guest for the event will be Virendra Singh, IAS, secretary (Textiles), cooperation, marketing and textile department, government of Maharashtra, while the guest of honour is Roop Rashi (IA&AS), textile commissioner, ministry of textiles, government of India. Keynote speaker Dr Naresh Tyagi, chief sustainability officer, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, will address the attendees, alongside felicitations by Dr Sharad Kumar Saraf, chairman and managing director, Technocraft Group, and Rajkumar Agarwal, managing director, SVG Fashions Ltd, the Textile Association of India said in a press release.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics related to sustainability and circularity in the textile sector. Speakers will include Ullhas Nimkar, chairman of NimkarTek Technical Services Pvt Ltd; Mayank Mody, director of Mody Linen Fibre Pvt Ltd; Dr G S Nadiger, general secretary of Non Conventional Fibres Association; Shailendra K Joshi from Truetzschler India Private Limited; Prashant M Pote of bluesign technologies ag; Umasankar Sinha Mahapatra, managing director of Pulcra Chemicals India Pvt Ltd; Ratnakar Mahajan from Maccaferri Environmental Solution Pvt Ltd; representatives from FashionEngage and Zydex Group.

Additionally, a panel discussion titled ‘Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs)’ will be moderated by Chandrima Chatterjee, secretary general, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI). The panel will include various industry leaders such as Rahul Bhajekar, managing director of GOTS; Murugan Thenkondar from Birla Cellulose, Grasim Industries Ltd; Kapil Pathare, Director of VIP Clothing Ltd; M. Gunasekaran of Lenzing Fibers; Avik Banerjee from H&M Group; and Srinivasan Krishnamurthy of IKEA Services (India) Pvt Ltd.
