The 700,000 tons-per-year (tpy) No. 1 naphtha cracker belonging to Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (FPCC), that was restarted this week, is currently running at 65 percent capacity, as per an announcement made by the company.

It normally takes a few days to get the cracker operational at its full capacity, and the No. 1 naphtha cracker is likely to attain 100 percent capacity within a week's time, the company announcement said.

The No. 1 naphtha cracker was shut on May 12 this year after a fire incident.

FPCC is Asia's top naphtha buyer and it operates three naphtha crackers with a combined capacity of 2.93 million tpy. While the No. 2 cracker with a capacity of 1.03 million tpy is in operation at full capacity, the No.3 cracker with a capacity of 1.2 million tpy was closed for 40-45 days maintenance in mid-August.
