The annual earnings of the Himachal Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation for fiscal year 2010-11 jumped to Rs. 134.932 million against previous fiscal's earnings of Rs. 103.841 million, a year-on-year increase of nearly 30 percent.
State Industries Minister Kishan Kapoor, while speaking at the 153rd meeting of Board of Directors of the Corporation, said the State government is trying to strengthen the Corporation by raising its earnings.
He said that permission has been given for setting up three handloom clusters at Janjheli, Tissa and Jwali with an outlay of Rs. 13.5 million. Each of these clusters would generate employment opportunities for around 350 weavers.
A Rs. 1.448 million project for skill upgradation and imparting training to weavers in making Chamba Rumal and leather crafts has been approved by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Minister said.
He added that a sum of Rs. 720,000 has been approved for organising workshops to impart training in Chamba Rumal, embroidered cloth and leather crafts.
