Uzbekistan currently processes over one-third of the ginned cotton produced domestically, and this proportion will rise to two-third, as the domestic textile industry enhances its capacity in the coming years.
Inaugurating the seventh International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair "Cotton and Textiles: Market Prospects" at Tashkent, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev said over the last five years, the country's textile production has gone up by 2.6 times, while textile exports have grown three times.
Uzbekistan each year produces 1 to 1.2 million tons of cotton fibre and 3.5 million tons of raw cotton.
At the International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair this year, about 800 samples of domestically produced cotton fibre are on display. It will provide the visitors with an opportunity to not only assess the quality of cotton, but also finalise transportation routes and successfully negotiate direct sales contracts.
Around 660 overseas partners representing 330 firms from 38 countries across the globe are participating in this year's fair.
The Fair is being organized by the Uzbek Government each year since 2005, with support from the International Cotton Advisory Committee.
