Brazilian govt plans measures against Chinese imports
Oct '11
The Brazilian textile and clothing industry is worried over the increase in influx of Chinese goods and wants the government to safeguard its market given the disloyal trade practices of the Chinese exporters.

The Chinese export bandwagon has also got worried policy makers in the South American country. It now plans to introduce safeguard measures in order to put brakes on the Chinese export juggernaut.

Felipe Hees – Head of the Commercial Department at the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade did not mince words when he said, “We need to prepare safeguards in anticipation of an increase in Chinese exports”.

In the first nine months of the current year, Chinese-Brazilian trade amounted to US $33 billion, almost double of its trade with the United States.

The Brazilian government has hired additional staff to monitor disloyal trade and particularly those which impact domestic industries.
