On 9 December 2011, the Hohenstein Institute is opening a new test laboratory in Hong Kong. Hong Kong continues to be an important hub for the textile market in Asia and is therefore a key location for serving the China and South-East Asia markets. By having this local facility, the Hohenstein Institute will greatly increase its proximity to its customers.
The official opening ceremony will begin at 15:30 hrs when Prof. Stefan Mecheels, CEO of the Hohenstein Institute, welcomes the guests. Following some specialist lectures, the members of the laboratory team led by Dr. Manfred Hirning will introduce themselves. Guests will then have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the laboratories.
The new test laboratory will be state-of-the-art, and will offer mainly chemical and physical textile testing. Full accreditation under DIN EN ISO 17025 will be given at the start of next year. Its other services will include testing that textile products are fit for purpose, analysing the composition of materials (in accordance with the Textile Labelling Act) and assessing how textiles react to care treatments.
The laboratory will be responsible locally for all the other textile testing options provided by its parent organisation.
