Australian alpaca wool fetches record price

Alpaca wool from Australia has fetched a record price of Au$ 61.40 per kg this year.

A 114 kg bale of superfine alpaca fleeces of 17.8 microns was sold at a high price of Au$ 7,000.

Alpaca fibre has smaller scales and hence it feels softer than sheep wool.

The alpaca bale was made by collecting fleeces from 40 growers across Australia.

The growers who produced ultrafine alpaca fleeces had invested a lot of effort, time and money so as to have their herds produce such good quality fibres.

The Australian alpaca that was sold at a record price would be exported to New Zealand where it would be used in making luxury innerwear items.
