Work in respect of West Ethylene Pipeline of Iran, stretching from Assalouyeh in the south to Kermanshah in the west is close to completion, following which the line would be commissioned next month, Ali-Mohammad Bassaqzadeh, a National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NIPC) official said.

As informed by the official, all necessary tests have been performed and the pipeline would be made operational within next one month, Tehran Times reported.

The pipeline project with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons, is expected to play an important part in establishment of new petrochemical industries or shifting of existing industries, which are now concentrated in the country’s southern provinces, to the western part of the country.

The pipeline incorporating eight pressure boosting stations would transfer from Assalouyeh-based Pars Special Economic Energy Zone to petrochemical complexes in western region of the country.

Upon commissioning, the line would supply ethylene to 13 petrochemical complexes, another NIPC official Nader Qorbani said.

Commissioning of the new pipeline project and establishment of 11 petrochemical complexes along the pipeline is expected to raise Iran’s petrochemical capacity by 3.5 million tons per annum.

During last Iranian calendar year that concluded on March 19 this year, Iran shipped 18.2 million tons of polymer and petrochemical products worth around US$ 14.2 billion to more than 60 countries.
