China's entire textile industry output grows in 2012

Despite a decrease in cotton planting area, the production of cotton, yarn and fabric increased last year, according to the 2012 National Economic and Social Development Statistics Bulletin, released last week.
 
In 2012, China's cotton planting area was 4.70 million hectares, which was a decrease of 340,000 hectares from the previous year.
 
During the year, China’s cotton production grew by 3.8 percent year-on-year to 6.84 million tons, yarn output shoot up by 9.8 percent year-on-year to 29.84 million tons, and fabric production rose by 3.3 percent year-on-year to 84.1 billion metres.
 
Man-made fibre output of the Chinese textile industry also increased by 12.1 percent year-on-year to 38 million tons during the year.
 
Along with production, retail domestic sales in Chinese clothing market soared by 17.7 percent year-on-year.
 
Similarly, exports of textile yarn, fabric and other textiles earned US$ 95.8 billion, up 1.2 percent year-on-year, while apparel and accessories exports fetched US$ 159.1 billion, up 3.9 percent year-on-year.
