A new cotton ginnery has opened in Maktaaral district of South Kazakhstan province in southern Kazakhstan, reports 24.kz.

The inauguration of the new cotton processing plant has at once created employment for 150 people. In addition, cotton growers would now be able to process the fibre at the gin and sell their produce at a higher price.

The new ginnery is equipped with latest machine that operates at high speed, and has capacity to process 60,000 tons of cotton a year.

The plant, built at a cost of 1 billion tenge invested by private enterprises, would improve productivity as well as quality of products, according to Talgat Umbetov, head of the ginnery.

The setting up of the new cotton ginnery is in accordance with the Government’s policy of supporting development of cotton clusters. In the future, textile mills are expected to come up in southern Kazakhstan province, giving a big push to local cotton industry.

In October last year, a ginnery became operational in Shardarinskiy district, also in South Kazakhstan province. It has a capacity to process 40,000 to 45,000 tons of raw cotton in a year.

South Kazakhstan is the only raw cotton growing region in the Central Asian country.
