Due to its ability to provide raw materials, the Middle-East will emerge as a vital hub for ethylene production by 2020, a top Bahrain minister said.
Minister in Charge of Oil and Gas Affairs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa was speaking at the Middle East Ethylene Conference held in Manama.Due to its ability to provide raw materials, the Middle-East will emerge as a vital hub for ethylene production by 2020, a top Bahrain minister said.#
The minister spoke about the contribution of the region to the global petrochemical industry and which has helped GCC to clock a turnover of $100 billion from the sector in the past year.
He expects the global ethylene market to grow rapidly till 2018, with GCC posting high exports of this very important petrochemical, which is used as raw material for producing textiles and plastics.
He was of the opinion that the Middle East petrochemical industry was witnessing a significant rise in investment opportunities among major petrochemical markets.
The conference was held under the theme of ‘Meeting Technical Challenges in the Ethylene Industry through Efficient and Sustainable Technology’.
GE Oil and Gas also showcased its technologies to maximise production efficiency of ethylene at the conference.
The products featured included, GE's process centrifugal compressors, turboexpanders for ethylene plants, hypercompressors for low-density polyethylene production and centrifugal pumps.
Advisory Committee Chairman and also CEO of Sadara Chemical Company – underlined the conference theme for Middle East in general and GCC countries in particular. (AR)
