Guangxi silkworm industry continued a rapid development trend in 2007. The region had a mulberry area of over 2.02 million mu (one hectare equals 15 Chinese mu), bred more than 5.60 million pieces of silkworms, and achieved a total cocoon yield of 205,200 tons, representing year-on-year growth of 11.91 percent, 10.93 percent and 10.49 percent, respectively.
In 2006 alone, the silkworm cocoon output amounted to 185,700 tons, accounting for 30 per cent of the nation's total.
