With the objective of enhancing exports of its key products, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Government plans large investments for designing, model improving and expansion of production in the textile and garment, woodwork, handicrafts as well as footwear sector.
Pham Hoang Ha, Director of Trade Department said that the city targets to increase share of these two sectors up to 25 percent in total exports turnover of the city in 2008 and mark 35-40 percent contribution by 2010.
This year, the city authorities aim to boost its target of total export turnover to 15 percent compared to last year.
According to statistics, HCMC fetched US $16.4 billion, excluding over $1.9 billion from crude oil exports.
The city stands at the top of the country's list of exporters in terms of quantity, with over 6,652 enterprises involved in export activities.
