The Ministry of Industry and Textile recently released a statistical report, according to which, in the period from January to November, Vietnam, imported 50,000 tones synthetic fibre, worth US $76.6 million, posting year–on–year growth of 23 and 29.3 percent.
In November alone, the country spent an amount of $9 million for 5,900 tons, which showed a boost of 7.3 percent in terms of value and 10.3 percent volume wise in comparison to similar period 2006.
Among all suppliers, Taiwan remained at top, as nearly 2,900 tons of synthetic fibre valued at $4.3 million were imported from the region, recording an ascend of 88.6 and 101.5 percent respectively year–on–year.
In the period of 11 months, import turnover from Taiwan reached around 28,100 tons for $41.4 million, accounting for 54 percent of total turnover of Vietnam, demonstrating an increase of 30.5 and 33.6 percent respectively.
Besides Taiwan, other key suppliers of polyester fibre during this period were Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.
In November, Indonesian enterprises exported nearly 814 tons at $1.5 million, showing a growth of almost 246 and 226 percent year-on–year. For the 11 month period, the figures were 5,000 tons for $9.8 million, mounting up 71.4 and 93.4 percent.
On the same line, Thailand shipped over 5000 tons polyester fibre to Vietnam, worth $7 million, rendering a escalation of around 31.4 and 46.1 percent.
In contrast, figures from Malaysia depicted decline in November, exporting 698 tons worth $1.1 million, decreased by 42.2 and 36 percent compared to same period 2006. However, statistics for the 11 month period represented slight growth, with 7,100 tons at $11.1 million, up only 13 and 28.4 percent respectively.
