Both India and Vietnam had been enjoying a healthy trade relation for quite some time. Each month these two countries fetch a considerable amount of foreign exchange from bi-lateral exports.
Recently, Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that in the month of February, this year, Indian enterprises exported 7,176 tons cotton to Vietnam, worth US $10.6 million, representing month-on–month drop of 27.5 percent volume wise and 25.4 percent, in terms of value.
However, the figures show strong growth of 136 and 202 percent, in volume and value wise in comparison to similar period 2007.
During the first two months this year, the import turnover of Vietnam reached 17,097 tons, totaled $25 million, rose by 34.6 and 63.7 percent respectively in comparison with corresponding period last year.
In accordance with the statistics recently released by MOIT, India is the biggest cotton supplier to Vietnamese textile and apparel industry during the said period, followed by US totaling to 14,398 tons worth $20.6 million, Brazil with 1,750 tons for $2.5 million.
Another report released by MOIT shows Vietnamese exports to India, where in it shows that the country earned $245.57 million in the month of February.
Key products exported to India are cotton, fibre and fabrics of all types, footwear, chemical products and machineries and spare parts.
